Nummular eczema

My son has two round, itchy patches on his legs that I thought looked like ringworm, but Lotrimin isn’t working. What else could this be?

Nummular eczema often is confused with ringworm. In children, these dry skin patches are most often located on the extremities and are itchy. They can be wet or dry, and can last for months if not properly treated. The patches have a tendency to recur. Lotrimin and other topical anti-fungal medications are not effective because nummular eczema is not a fungal infection. See your physician to make the diagnosis and devise a treatment plan; if it’s nummular eczema, this may include moisturizers, topical steroids, itch relief, and identification and avoidance of aggravating factors.
