Amniocentesis and CVS
Amniocentesis (amnio) and chorionic villus sampling (CVS) are prenatal tests that can diagnose - or, far more often - rule out, certain birth defects. The two procedures test for the same birth defects, except neural tube defects such as spina bifida, which only CVS detects.
