Montgomery Zoo

The Montgomery Zoo has six realms—Africa, Asia, North America, South America and Australia. The Montgomery Zoo stresses natural habitats, education, and plays a significant role in protecting endangered species. Construction of natural habitat exhibits began in 1991 when the Montgomery Zoo expanded from six to 40 acres. These spacious habitats create spectacular views for visitors.

The zoo hosts many events throughout the year: Zoo Weekend in March, Zoobilation, Ballet and the Beast in September, ZooBoo in October, and the Holiday Lights Festival in December. Hundreds of volunteers make these events successful.

The Montgomery Zoo is home to more than 650 animals with over 170 different species (15 of which are endangered). Funded by the City of Montgomery, Zoo Friends, admission fees and donations, the Montgomery Zoo is ranked sixth in the state tourist attractions. Over 1,900,000 people have visited since expansion in 1991.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
