Pregnancy and Diabetes mellutus
My mother has adult diabetes mellitus. I had it while I was pregnant. I am still a bit heavy and have mild hypertension. Do I need to worry?
It sounds like you are developing the Dysmetabolic Syndrome, which can include diabetes, increased body mass, hypertension and dyslipidemia. Any woman who had gestational diabetes is at a higher risk as she passes into middle age. People who have any or all of the other conditions I mentioned or pre-diabetes are at much higher risk of heart disease or stroke. You should be concerned and work with your doctors to normalize your weight and blood pressure. In addition, your lipids and blood sugar (two hours after meal) should be checked each year also. If you are doing these things you don’t need to worry.
